Athletic Background: Built On the Mat

High School

Enrique didn’t grow up wrestling—he began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai at age 14, influenced by his Uncle who he grew up watching MMA with. Then, he started wrestling his sophomore year in high school where he had a 4-5 record. The summer before his junior year, he attended a JROB 5-Day Technique Camp. He returned as a junior with a 31-14 record and was determined to improve.

The summer before his senior year, he attended a grueling 28-Day JROB Intensive Camp. He earned the coveted JROB “I Did It” shirt which is awarded to wrestlers who meet the points requirements after the camp. During his senior year, Enrique went 47-9, became a UIL District 15-6A Champion, UIL Region 4-6A Champion, UIL 6A State Semifinalist, and UIL 6A State Placer (5th)—breaking the Johnson High School single-season wins record along the way.

High School Accolades:

  • UIL 6A State Placer (5th)

  • UIL 6A Region Champion

  • UIL 6A District Champion

  • Johnson Single-Season Wins Record Holder for Four Years (47 Wins)

  • 2018 Johnson Most Outstanding Wrestler

  • 2018 Johnson Departmental Wrestling Award

College

At the University of Texas at Austin, he joined the Longhorn Wrestling Team, where he served as President from his sophomore to senior year and Vice President as a freshman. During this time, he became a three-time NCWA National Qualifier, NCWA Conference Champion, and NCWA All-American (7th). His proudest accomplishment is growing the Longhorn Wrestling Team from five to 40 members, with eight wrestlers qualifying for Nationals his senior year.

Wrestling grounded Enrique through the challenges of college life, career uncertainty, and even injury. Despite a major shoulder surgery, a canceled season due to COVID-19, and a heartbreaking overtime loss in the bloodround of his final national tournament appearance, he walked away with memories far beyond the competition mat—as a leader, coach, and mentor.

Collegiate Accolades:

  • NCWA All-American (7th)

  • NCWA Southwest Conference Champion

  • 3X NCWA National Qualifier

  • President of the University of Texas Wrestling Team 2019-2022

  • Grew Wrestling Team NCWA National Qualifiers from Three to Eight

Current Day

Post-college, Enrique transitioned to No-Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, where he currently holds a 7-0 record. He trained at B-Team Jiu Jitsu and now trains at American Top Team Atlanta, with plans to continue competing in No-Gi BJJ. He has won the following tournaments: Newbreed Augusta, Southeastern Grappling Association Asheville, and North American Grappling Association Orlando.
