Hear from Samantha about Enrique’s Mentorship

"I lost my Mom when I was just a year old, and growing up with the weight of her absence deeply shaped both me and my family. My Dad, as a single parent, did the best he could. I learned to stay out of trouble and not add to his stress. When my Dad remarried, my Stepmom helped fill in some of the gaps we had always lived with.

My Stepbrother, Enrique, became a role model. I watched his resilience and discipline in his daily life and learned so much through his advice on accountability, work ethic, and watching the high standard that he holds himself to both in life and in sports. Enrique taught me the importance of goal setting and building strong daily habits. He also directly coaches me in wrestling and gives me strong advice on how to be a competitor. Enrique gave me the tools to succeed, not just in sports, but in school, my future career, and in how I carry myself every day."

Hear from Enrique about Samantha

"I had the pleasure of seeing my Stepsister, Sammie, grow into her own person over the years. She had a difficult upbringing with the loss of her mother at a young age. She is a soft-spoken and sweet person. After mentoring her throughout the years, I have seen her increased confidence in how she carries herself. From a timid kid to a confident teenager, Sammie has shifted her mindset to one of self-belief, built through her trust in the work she puts in every day. I have also directly coached Sammie in wrestling, and it has been great to see her improve. I am excited to see her wrestling career at Johnson play out over the next three years. I know she will do great things for the community when she grows up and will proudly represent the city of San Antonio to a high standard.”
